That’s right! Coffee from OUR yard! And yes, we got to drink it!…. Over the weekend Spencer and Gavin picked coffee beans from some bushes that border the back of our property. Next, we laid the seeds out in the sun for a day. Then we had a bunch of Gavin’s friends over to hull them- took off the red fruity layer and got the bean out. We made them do it all day without any breaks until their fingers were stained brown. I kid, I kid:)

After that, we spread them out in a dehydrator and let them dry up for about 24 hours or maybe even more. THEN you have to take off another flaky layer. THEN you roast them on the stovetop. We chose a dark roast. And OMG!:)

We used those beans this morning to make cappucinos and Woweee. It was so delicious! Let me say thought, I do not feel bad paying $5 for a cup of coffee anymore. The work that went into 1 cup’s worth! But I do feel bad knowing that most of the coffee pickers all over the world make a couple dollars per day to pick those little beans.
