Last night I had a brief but inspiring convo with my sistah, Kristin. We talked about loving thy self and making sure to schedule in self care. And not by chance, today this email was in my inbox and I thought I’d share it. It was a nice reminder and yet another hint to keep self care alive and well in my daily life- even if it’s just 5 minutes. To keep my inner workings healthy and balanced and cleansed…. so that I can operate from my highest self when it’s NOT easy! When I haven’t slept, one child is yelling at me, the husband asks me to grind some coffee, the other child needs milk, the phone is ringing, and the other child is crying because the toilet is clogged.
It’s easy to take care of all of the above in a matter of minutes after a beach walk with a friend, a nice green smoothie, some QT with myself, some meditation and/or yoga. But what happens when we haven’t taken a few minutes to check in with ourselves to see what WE NEED? And sometimes it’s just having the awareness and voicing it to yourself or friend or even child! “I really need a healthy meal.” or “Mama needs to go take a 5 minute time out!” or “I need to make sure I have 10 minutes today to talk to a friend.” or “I desperately need a nap today.” Whatever it is- make sure you are breathing into that place of awareness and telling someone. Then if you can get what you need, even better!……
Taking care of yourself when IN and OUT of balance will help you to maintain that alkaline and clean state even when things aren’t pretty. OR…. if you do fudge up and yell at a loved one- you would have it in you to come back a few minutes later with an apology and a hug.
Expansion usually happens after a contraction. But because we’ve been taking care- we can allow the contraction and we can breathe into it and be okay with it.
The rainbow comes after the rain. But because we’ve been taking care, we have rain boots that fit, and an umbrella that works. And we enjoy the rain because we know it’s part of the process.
Now enjoy Danielle LaPorte’s inspo and reminder below.
