Today was a big day for Gavin. But not as big as next Tuesday. We got to go see his little school and he met his Teacher today. We went while there were no other kids there and he was amazed at all the incredible toys in this classroom. But we don’t call them toys- I was corrected on that one. They are “jobs”….. as is the Montessori Method. “What job would you like next?” or “Which job would you like to do next?” Something like that. First he chose the little jars with numbers on them to fill with the same amount of pennies. Next, he chose this little contraption that helps kids understand that movement when you draw a circle. After that, he wanted to hammer in the pegs to a workbench. And his final job was to race cars down a racetrack.
In the midst of it all, Teacher Nancy asked how Gavin would handle the separation next week. I said, “Well, let’s ask him!” So she explained what would happen next week and he exploded into tears. But then he stopped and we continued playing WAIT>>….I mean, doing our jobs….. and 10 minutes later he said, “I want to come back to Teacher Nancy’s and then go home and take a nap with Mama and Deia.”
Great job, Gavin. We’ll see how next week goes:)
and these are the kind of jobs that he loves to do around the house. Which I am ALL for!
