First Day of School for Gavin

After Gavin met Teacher Nancy last week, and cried for 20 seconds about it, we were unsure how today would go. For the last few days we talked about it a bit, and stayed really positive and kept talking it up. At a birthday party on Saturday, he saw the little girl that he met last week when we visited the school. So he knew that he would be seeing her again. That may have helped. Or that he knew he got apple juice and graham crackers for a snack. (Note: we don’t ever have juice around the house, so that’s a pretty big deal for the lil guy!). His older buddy, Thatcher, also was telling him yesterday that he went to Teacher Nancy’s and had so much fun there. A  lot was in our favor today. So when he woke up this morning, Spencer got him all excited about going down to the big kid school to play soccer before the big kids got there. And then when the big kids arrived, they would go to Teacher Nancy’s. He was SO excited and asked if they could bring the bat and baseballs, too. So he quickly ate, got dressed and sat next to the door. I have NEVER seen him get ready that fast. I stayed at home with Deia. (Actually, Deia and I went down to a friend’s house for a cafe and gab time!) When Spencer got home I couldn’t WAIT to hear about how it went. He said that while they were playing soccer at Sunset Elementary, some of the big kids started arriving, and Gavin said, “Papa, let’s go to TEacher Nancy’s now. I want to go to my school.” So off they went. Once they got to the door at school and Spencer asked him if he could take a picture, Gavin said maybe later, followed with an “I love you, Papa.”

Spencer and I couldn’t believe how GREAT it was to have a child at school. Given, we are paying for it, but HELLO!!! It’s a whole new world….!!!…. And Deia was napping and we actually had a conversation at 9:30 AM. Without having to put Dora or Diego on TV. And to know that Gavin was somewhere being so stimulated and learning and interacting with other kids. HEAVEN. Sign me (him) up for five days a week!:)  Can Deia join? I’m just kidding….but wow. I’m kinda wondering how anybody could cry when their child goes to school for the first time. 🙂
